South African designer Laurie Wiid van Heerden continues his love affair with cork as he launches the world’s largest Façade grade cork pendant lamp.
Laurie Wiid van Heerden has clearly not lost his enthusiasm for experimentating with cork as he launches the world’s largest cork pendant light in Façade grade cork, manufactured and designed by Wiid Designs in Cape Town.
The cork used in the production of the lamp is 100 per cent organic and completely recyclable.
The cork pendant is the first in Wiid’s collection to come with its own stand, the foot of which is also made of matching cork. The height of the top of the lamp from the floor is 2.8 metres.
The pendant shade is manufactured from solid dark cork and is 900mm in diameter and 450mm high. Wiid’s cork supplier, Amorim Cork, supplies the material to designers worldwide and has confirmed that Wiid Design’s pendant is currently the largest in the world.
The lamp is on exhibition at the Southern Guild Gallery Unit 1, 10-16 Lewin Street, Woodstock, Cape Town 7925, until August 2015.
