Zeitz MOCAA New in November? Lots happening and more lined up for December as well!
First Thursdays is coming to the Silo District on Thursday, 2 December. Zeitz MOCAA will be open from 6 pm to 9 pm with half-price admission (that’s only R105!). Keep an eye out for ticket sales in the coming weeks. As always, members enter for free.
The development of contemporary art in Africa and its diaspora is the key focus and this month, Zeitz MOCCA continues that commitment with a warm welcome to artist Johannes Phokela, whose solo exhibition titled Only Sun in the Sky Knows How I Feel – (A Lucid Dream) opened on 28 October.
The exhibition includes a select survey of the artist’s oeuvre from the last three decades and delves into his continuous return to specific visual languages, histories, themes and conceptual critiques.
For the kids
Zeitz MOCAA’s Centre For Art Education is well known for its holiday programmes and event-day celebrations. This season, they will be exploring calligraphy, brush-drawing, printmaking and sewing, with all classes based on artworks that are in the museum’s galleries.
Saturday, 27 November is their regular monthly Family Learning Programme, which is a parent and child art-making experience. All materials are supplied and children under 18 get in free. Book a spot here.
The Zeitz MOCAA Shop is back to normal trading hours! Visit to find unique pieces and exhibition-inspired gifts. Shop with purpose, shop conscientiously and support African art and design. Don’t forget to tag @zeitzmocaashop @zeitzmocaa in pics of your purchases.
COVID Protocols
“While we remain open to the public throughout the current COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve put some additional processes in place to ensure your health and safety. On arrival, your temperature will be taken and you will be asked to sanitise regularly at the sanitisation stations throughout the museum. Our audio guides are now also available on Soundcloud so you won’t need to share a device with anyone else, and we’ve also made it easier to pay for admission and other purchases with contactless payment options. Don’t forget: We have a strict ‘No mask, no entry’ policy.”
