V&A: Summer Sunset Concerts @ the Water’s Edge

The line-up for the V&A Waterfront Summer Sunset Concerts has been announced. Taking place on the outdoor Amphitheatre every Sunday during February, these acoustic performances featuring well-known names offer great views, great music and the perfect way to spend a summer’s evening on the water’s edge.

Each performance takes place at a different time so keep an eye on the website for a full schedule.

Dane Taylor Trio
Date: Sunday 2nd February 2014. Time: 17h00 – 17h30
Dane Taylor Trio is a power-blues/rock band from Cape Town. Taylor formed the Dane Taylor Trio with friends, drummer Justin Mark and bassist Rob Shaw. Rob was later replaced by Steve Deck. Dane and Justin both studied through Berklee School of Music in Boston USA. Steve graduated at The University of Cape Town with a degree in Music. The three of them achieved top grades, critical knowledge and skill, which play a crucial role in their song writing, production and direction. Heavily influenced by great artists such as Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, The Raconteurs, Kings Of Leon and John Mayer, the trio portray a keen sense of melody and groove which keeps them honest and energetic. Their first release entitled “ForeWord” was written, recorded and produced independently in 3 short months. Recorded mostly live, in the space of three days, the trio clearly wanted to capture a certain organic entity and honesty on this debut EP.

Sannie Fox
Date: Sunday 2nd February 2014. Time: 17h40 – 18h10
Sannie Fox, described as belting out the blues like she was born in a Louisiana swamp, is a composer, guitarist and vocalist based in Cape Town. Her influences are an eclectic mix of artists and genres ranging from Screaming Jay Hawkings, to Led Zeppelin, Ella Fitzgerald, Patti Smith, John Lee Hooker, 60’s rock, Gospel and Malian blues.
She has recorded as well as performed and worked with a variable amount of talented local artists from a young age; Tim Parr (African Dope), Dan Patlanski, Theo Crous (Springbok Nude Girls), Derek Gripper, The Brother Moves On, Albert Frost, and Inge Beckmann.

Natasha Meister
Date: Sunday 2nd February 2014. Time: 18h20 – 19h05
Natasha Meister – the 22yr old, Canadian born, award winning singer/songwriter has been dubbed “The Meister” by local and international fans. After just two short years in the industry she was recognised as a rising star with incredible passion and seemingly limitless talent. To credit her name, Natasha is the only woman in Africa who is endorsed by both Fender (USA) and Lakewood (Germany) guitar makers.   Recently joined by drummer Lance Rhoda, who has performed with the likes of Danny K, Loyiso and David Kramer as well as renowned Bass player Omar Kimmie – this trio has groove and fusion that is not easily matched. Natasha released her debut album “Half Way” in April 2012, with the single “Safe InThe Silence” making it’s mark in the SA scene both on National Radio and TV.  Some of the tracks off Natasha’s album have also been play-listed in various parts the world including: Canada, Australia and the USA. She caught the attention of international superstar Daniel Bedingfield, who insisted that she join him to collaborate in late 2012 for his South African tour.

Boulevard Blues Band
Date: Sunday 2nd February 2014. Time: 19h15 – 20h00
The Boulevard Blues band has been rocking music lovers at venues, events and festivals in South Africa for over a decade, liberating their fans with soulful Blues and Rock. The band sets high standards in both music genres with their quality music that’s easy to listen to, and offering an unprecedented and entertaining live performance. Inspired by Dr John Mostert “Doctor of the Blues” the band has been playing mainly Blues, in its various forms since their inception in 1998. Portions of their now vast repertoire include Rock classics, some light jazz, soul and funk. With the introduction of many of their own compositions, the band has tastefully added a new facet to their repertoire and highlighted some formerly hidden talents.
