With the aim of advocating and promoting a platform for bandleaders and their bands, Artscape commemorates Youth Day on 16 June 2018, with Band Stand where eight unique youth bands present their sensational original diverse styles of music and compositions in the Artscape Theatre at 7.30pm.

Ensuring their commitment to music literacy and develop young musicians within the fields of brass and woodwind instruments Artscape has provided a mentorship programme for these bands with three acclaimed musicians, Marc de Kock, Ian Smith and Camillo Lombard.

The Jazz bands are from the Western Cape and include

  • The Dymamix Jazz Band (Bellville) – photo above,
  • Groote Schuur High School Jazz Ensemble (Newlands),
  • Major Voices (Khayelitsha),
  • WCYO Jazz Band (Langebaan),
  • After-School Project (Kuilsriver),
  • Odwa Bongo (Cape Town),
