The City of Cape Town managed Blaauwberg Nature Reserve will be taking part in the upcoming Clean-up SA week by running beach clean-ups at different locations every day between 14 and 19 September 2020.

The week builds up to International Coastal Clean-up Day on 19 September where more than 700 000 volunteers in 120 countries around the world take part in the world’s biggest clean-up.

The City of Cape Town staff will be at the various sites from 09:00 until 14:00 every day to welcome participants and supply them with collection bags. The beach clean-ups will focus on the coast from Melkbosstrand to the Eerste Steen Resort. The City asks that all attendees please arrive wearing a mask and comply with all COVID-19 health and safety regulations and guidelines on the day.

‘Spring time is the best time to do a good clean up along our beaches. I ask residents to use this opportunity and join our staff during the beach clean-up week this month. Let’s take some time to care for this much-loved and beautiful piece of coastline.

‘Every piece of plastic litter makes its way down our rivers and streams to the ocean, therefore I ask residents to please make a real effort to visit our beaches as the weather warms up and collect as much litter as they can while they are out. Every bit of help will make a difference,’ said Alderman Marian Nieuwoudt, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment.
