Evelyn Leukes.  Woman of Resilience Awards – Vestaris International

The Vestaris International Award Ceremony of the Evelyn Leukes Woman of Resilience Award took place on Saturday 28 August.  It is significant that both honours have been awarded in August – Woman’s Month.

Dr Marlene Le Roux during her acceptance speech of the Evelyn Leukes Woman of Resilience Awards made a call to politicians and church leaders in particular to play their part in eradicating gender-based violence and sexist practices that perpetuate patriarchy and abuse of women. She encouraged women to stand strong and abandon abusive relationships and marriages for their own and the benefit of their children. Furthermore, she also encouraged all South Africans to get vaccinated, because it is the right thing to do. The plight of citizens with disabilities and the continued hardships they face remains key with every opportunity for advocacy available to her.
