Equality, diversity and human rights champion, Dianna Yach, puts a refreshing spin in the title to her 2 lecture series at UCT Summer School 2022.

This course will highlight how good intentions alone are not enough for the effective implementation of equality, diversity and human rights strategies. Drawing on case studies derived from experience in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, South Africa, Israel and Ramallah, this course addresses commonalities and differences in moving from rhetoric to reality. It offers insights into the vexed terrain of culture change, overcoming stereotypes and binary thinking.
Dianna Yach after graduating from UCT with a BA and LLB and being admitted as an advocate to the SA High Court, Yach obtained an LLM from the University of London, subsequently becoming a law lecturer at Queen Mary College, University of London. Dianna Yach is currently Chairperson of the Mauerberger Foundation Fund (MFF)], which supports community-based and academic institutions in South Africa, Israel and Ramallah. Established by her grandfather Morris Mauerberger, in 1938, the MFF works to advance human rights and social justice by supporting the next generation of ethical leaders in health, welfare, education, governance, the arts and sustainable environment. Yach is a member of Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) and UCT Councils. She also serves on several NGO boards and is Chairperson of the UCT Alumni Advisory Board. While resident in London, she was a trustee of the Camden Citizens Advice Bureau, chair of the Camden Race Equality Council and founder member of Scotland Yard’s Racial and Violent Crime Taskforce. During South Africa’s first democratic elections, she served as a member of the Commonwealth Observer’s Group and chaired a multinational panel on peacekeeping. Yach is a proud UCT alumna who is passionately committed to equality, diversity and human rights. She is an accredited mediator and fellow of the Chartered Institute of People Development (UK). She founded and was managing director of a niche consultancy in London, Ionann Management Consultants Ltd, dedicated to helping clients in the public, private and community sectors to translate equality, diversity and human-rights into practice, going beyond legal compliance to enacting the spirit of transformation.
