Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation at The Old Granary

Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation CEO, Janet Jobson, walks us through the Truth to Power Exhibition at The Old Granary on the Sanlam Arts Round Up.  Reconciliation Day is the perfect time to speak to her about the exhibition focusing on the Arch.

Listen to the Sanlam Arts Round Up on Fine Music Radio FMR 101.3fm every Friday NOW at 17h30

Janet briefly takes us through the history of The Old Granary that was originally used by the Castle for grain storage, and other purposes, slowly falling into disrepair. The building was offered to Archbishop Desmond Tutu by the City of Cape Town to become the home of the museum he wished to establish.

It now houses the Truth to Power Exhibition that focuses on Desmond Tutu and in the wider context of the role of the churches and other faith communities in the liberation struggle. It provides a powerful and engaging story of his life of activism.

This is a powerful and engaging exhibition. This is evident from the response of the learners that visit. The Education Programme is aimed at grades 6, 9 and 12 and takes the learners on a journey leading up to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

As Janet Jobson notes, the exhibition certainly “captures  his humanity”.
