Cape Town’s Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden in Cape Town has been named the best botanical garden in Africa by the World Luxury Travel Awards.
Few gardens can match the sheer grandeur of the setting of Kirstenbosch, against the eastern slopes of Cape Town’s Table Mountain.
The awards are determined by public votes and recognise various travel destinations globally in diverse categories.
Kirstenbosch is managed by the SA National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) and aims to provide special memories for visitors through the fusion of nature’s beauty and exceptional service. World Luxury Travel Awards, is a global organisation aimed at highlighting, rewarding, and promoting the best in luxury travel and tourism.
The director of marketing, communication, and commercialisation at the SA National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), Nontsikelelo Mpulo, said the awards were determined by votes, and therefore recognised various travel destinations from different categories on a global scale.

“The World Luxury Travel Awards are voted for by the public and are awarded to travel establishments across a diverse variety of categories, presented on a global, continent, regional, and country basis,” she added.
The travel destination is managed and maintained by SANBI, which plays a vital role in generating information and knowledge, building capacity, providing policy guidance, and conserving biodiversity.
It forms part of 11 national botanical gardens across the county. Additionally, it contributes to the mission at the National Zoological Garden in Pretoria.
“Kirstenbosch is a beautiful space to relax and explore the bounties of South Africa’s biodiversity. The World Luxury Travel Award recognises the hard work of the garden team there, and the pleasure we derive from sharing this garden with the world,” said Mpulo.
Kirstenbosch’s mandate, according to her, was to make special memories for its visitors to treasure forever, and with this global recognition, the garden stands as a remarkable example of the fusion of nature’s beauty and satisfactory service, leaving a lasting impression on visitors.
