Meet Dirk Durnez of Art@Africa and Nisha Maharaj of V&A Waterfront

SuperFile Art Tech Festival – Sustaining Our Seas and Skies, at V&A Waterfront, promotes the global connection between everyone on Earth to our oceans and space. This is a collaboration by Art@Africa and the V&A Waterfront. Dirk Durnez of Art@Africa and Nisha Maharaj, Senior Marketing Manager at the V&A Waterfront tell us what to  expect from 10 –  17 August!

Listen to the Arts Round Up on Fine Music Radio FMR 101.3fm on Fridays at 17h30

SuperFile Art Tech FestivalDirk Durnez explains that SuperFile Art Tech Festival has 3 components – Superfile, art and technology. SuperFile refers to the American sponsor of the Festival who have developed a new way of pdfs. To really understand this development you should attend the Ted-X style Info and Debate Evening ‘ Safeguarding your Intellectual property ‘ with international guests on Wednesday 14. This event is free but limited to 80 guests. [click HERE to rsvp]

The art part is focused on the Art@Africa Gallery and around the Clocktower Centre vicinity.

The tech aspect came about through Dirks connection with one of the main people at NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) Jim Adams, that through art you are commenting about pollution in the oceans, we are also busy with cleaning up the cosmic ocean.

Our Better NatureDirk communicated with the V&A Waterfront who are conducting a campaign called Our Better Nature. There was an obvious synchronicity and they combined forces.

Nisha Maharaj explains that sustainability has always been a focus of the Waterfront and have reached several milestones in their neighbourhood. This year they wanted to remind those in the precinct and visitors to be more mindful, and spotlight the fact that the planet is our home – it sustains and connects us. Every small bit helps to protect and preserve. Their focus is one of inspiration and hope. This is the idea behind Our Better Nature.

Dr Sian Proctor, the first female, black  American astronaut (see photo above) is also an artist. She will be at the  Opening Night of the Superfile Art Tech Festival on Tuesday 13 th. Admission is free but limited to 80 guests. You need to RSVP.
