St Georges Unplugged – Free Classical Lunch Concerts in the heart of the City -1.15pm to 2pm

St George’s Unplugged showcases the high level and variety of classical Western and African music found around Cape Town throughout the year and this is there October to December line-up.

They are presented in an informal way, introduced by the musicians, and patrons are invited to sit, unwind, ‘unplug’ and contemplate through music in the iconic surroundings of St Georges Cathedral in the heart of the City.  In the run up to the new 2026 series Louise Howlett would like to invite you to the next three concerts taking place on the first Tuesday of the month.

Tuesday 7th October: Ubuntu Brass Quintet 

The Ubuntu Brass Quintet (see photo) comprises full and part-time members of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. They will present a programme of Brass Music Through the Ages – from Renaissance to Hollywood.

Tuesday 4th November: Zakwantu African Ensemble  

The Zakwantu African Ensemble, led by Vuyisani Mkwambi hail from the African Music Department at the SA College of Music, UCT. They will present a programme of beautiful indigenous music from across Africa inspired by nature and cultural heritage.

Tuesday 2nd December: Albert Combrink and Friends

Pianist Albert Combrink brings the year to a festive finish with music from classical to tango.

Concerts are free of charge as the Cathedral remains an open space for all, but donations are welcome to help fundraise for the Cathedral’s much needed building repairs and maintenance along with concert running costs. (Facility for credit card and cash will be available at the door, but donations can also be made in advance via Quicket.) Artist fees are sourced through a separate fundraising initiative.

The 2026 series will run every Tuesday and Thursday from 13 January to 25 March from 1.15 to 2pm offering the opportunity for tourists and locals alike to experience a wide spread of the incredible music available in Cape Town throughout the year.
