A Night at the Opera Gala Concert at the Baxter Theatre promises an evening of beautiful music featuring arias, duets and excerpts from operas by Mozart, Rossini, Bellini, Verdi, Puccini, Bizet and more.
South African music-lovers will welcome the chance to hear South Africa’s leading cultural luminaries
- internationally acclaimed sopranos Goitsemang Lehobye and Nozuko Teto,
- mezzo-sopranos Bongiwe Nakani and Violina Anguelov,
- tenors Makudu Senaoana, Sipho Fubesi, Owen Metsileng (Who has just returned from singing at the Cardiff Singer of the World) and Menzi Mngoma (The recently discovered Uber driver.)
Together they will give a concert titled A Night at the Opera Gala, in Cape Town on 20 July 2019 hosted by the multiple award-winning baritone, Njabulo Madlala. The concert is accompanied by one of today’s most exciting operatic maestros, Kamal Khan.
Aside from his own illustrious professional accomplishments in British and European music circles over the past two decades, London-based Madlala has won wide respect for his unstinting work in fostering young South African classical singers abroad. They will be joined by a few exceptionally talented young singers in aid of Opera Voices of South Africa Project, an initiative dedicated to the education, mentoring and inspiring the next generation of opera stars out of Africa.
