Alexander Upstairs: Oscar & Noel Encore + Something Outrageous

Alexander Upstairs Theatre ends 2014 with an encore and offers an outrageous start to 2015.

Oscar & Noel Encore
Noel Coward is planning to chat to you about his thoroughly eventful and comical journey out to us in Cape Town.  “In my study, we will chat about my adoration of Lily Langtry, among others, and my eventual marriage to Constance – all sprinkled with wit! We will share the delightfully absurd Lord Goring and his manservant Phipps and revel in the macabre story of Picture of Dorian Gray. The outrageous Lady Bracknell is our highlight. My life is incomplete without considering my calamitous 2 years in Reading gaol, saved by hilarious chats between Wilde and his Irish warder, Tom Martin.
We create the illusion of asking my audience to join me in my study and share my life. I play some 7 different characters in the show, including the iconic Lady Bracknell.

I so enjoy the sharp and witty insights that Wilde gives into the, at times, hilariously idiotic snobbery of the English upper classes of his time.
As well as the humor, there is also the sadness associated with his later decline and imprisonment. Noel Coward gives us a delightful encore.”

Something Outrageous
Actors are egotistical, pampered shits. In their world nothing is real: brick walls are made from balsar wood and gunshot wounds are created painlessly in the makeup trailer… The only way onto this decadent merry- go-round is the casting room, a sterile white chamber where talented and untalented alike scramble for the next role. Rejection is a way of life. No wonder they’re bastards, but can you blame them?

In this world of paranoid insecurity, insincerity and outright lies; two actors are waiting for an important casting to begin. Once friends, now rivals the two are forced to endure each others company for the first time in years and as their realtionship unravels they struggle to separate reality from fantasy. The result is Something Outrageous.

Go on. Be cool. Be the person who gets to ask their friends “Do you want to see something outrageous tonight?”. You know you want to.
