Meet Anthony de Klerk, artist and owner of Art du Cap, located in the colourful and historic district of Bo-Kaap, which he talks about on the Sanlam Arts Round Up this week on Fine Music Radio.

Anthony begins by focusing on the special location and the people of the Bo-Kaap. It’s an absolute privilege for the galley to be set in this awesome community. One has the sense of being in a small village in the middle of a city. People add a lot of colour to the environment.
Art du Cap is an artist owned gallery, and predominantly features his own work and that of his daughter Bianca who focuses on the flora and fauna of the Cape.

The gallery gives him the opportunity to do his own thing. Currently he is working on two themes. The first is ‘Dreamers and Heroes’ – the theme of an exhibition he had in 2028. He has continued on these portraits of young people who inspire him with their incredible vision for these times despite the difficult circumstances some may find themselves in. He is also focusing on the heroes that fought the struggle and paved the way for these young people.
The other series is of Cape Town based paintings to capture the Cape landscape and special spots in and around the city at special times of the day. The lead photo above is Chiappini Street, where the gallery is located.
