Bongani Vincent is a 31 year old visual artist and filmmaker originally from the small mining town of Secunda, now based in Cape Town.
Their distinctive and otherworldly work positions them as an exciting voice amongst emerging South African artists…
Bonganiʼs afro-futurist portraits are a study of the endless geometries that can be found in faces – their deeply emotive, brooding form reflects the artist’s struggles with identity and mental illness – two things they hope to make sense of through their art.
Each painting comes from another dimension, the artist is a vessel for other personas from dimensions named Anaah, Sen, and Ruu. Their oil paintings come from Anaa while Sen and Ruu busy themselves with film and music.
The exhibition runs until the 10th of August.

S T O N E D Remembering the 80’s Curated by Cheryl Traub-Adler
Due to popular demand, the exhibition has been extended until 27th July.
The AVA has been buzzing with activity around the opening of Cheryl Traub-Adler’s aptly titled exhibition of political art from the 1980s. Most of the featured artists were there in person to take a walk down memory lane with Michael Barry’s opening reminding us of the Vakalisa Art Associates who played a vital role in the activist life in Cape Town. This potent exhibition serves as a challenge to the young artists of today to consider their role in our turbulent society.
