The Cape Town Concert Series is excited to present it’s first concert for 2021 – this coming Saturday 24 April at 11am!
The concert will be a wonderful mix of chamber music featuring members of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.
The programme opens with the CPO Brass Quintet performing two arrangements, then three duets for violin and viola with the ‘Salt & Pepper’ duo of Samantha Durrant and Maja van Dyk. We follow with Mozart’s Serenade for Winds in E-flat K375 and finish the programme with the Shostakovich Chamber Symphony for Strings and Timpani lead by guest Concert Master Farida Bacharova.
Says Louise Howlett, manager of the CTSC, “The CPO and CTSC have worked closely together for more than 60 years, sharing artists. What better way for the CTSC to begin resuming its live concerts than with the musicians of the CPO, all of whom are dying to perform in front of an audience. Several of the works were included in the CPO’s Symphony Masterpieces in Miniature, in which arrangements of symphonic works were performed in hybrid concerts at Erin Hall. This is your change to relive those concerts or to experience them for the first time.”
The concert will be just over an hour and will follow with a short ‘in-conversation’ with a few members as a chance for you to hear from the musicians directly.
The Baxter Concert Hall is able to accommodate 200 in the audience, and all Covid protocols will apply.
