‘Top 50 Most Instagrammable Places 2022’ list – Cape Town is ranked 22nd according to media and travel company Big 7 Travel. On the rest of the continent, only Kenya and Morocco feature.
The list of destinations is judged by a tally of hashtags used for the destination; sample surveys of the company’s audience are also used. Travel and media company Big 7 Travel has released the ‘Top 50 Most Instagrammable Places 2022’ list every year for the past four years, using a tally of the number of Instagram hashtags per destination, combined with a survey of its users.
- The final list is selected based on its visual attraction and social-media popularity.
- The 2022 edition features 50 locations in the world, one from almost every continent.
Two African destinations made the list alongside the Mother City; Masai Mara, Kenya, held the 35th position with Marrakech, Morocco, in the 33rd.

More than 12.5 million hashtags are associated with Cape Town. It’s described as a location with dramatic scenery, spectacular ocean views, and pink neighbourhoods by Big 7 Media.
