Cape Town Opera is the BIG attraction at the Kirstenbosch Sunset Concerts this Sunday, 22 January 2023.Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts, in association with the City of Cape Town, will host the award-winning Cape Town Opera as they make a glorious return to Kirstenbosch accompanied by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Brandon Phillips.
Cape Town Opera’s Artistic Director, Magdalene Minnaar, is delighted that the company will be returning to Kirstenbosch. “It is a joy to be able to perform once again in one of the Mother City’s most unique and iconic performance venues,” she said.
Under the musical direction of Cape Town Opera’s Marvin Kernelle, the concert will pay homage to operatic giants. It will feature excerpts from a cherished operatic repertoire bolstered by powerful orchestration and choral singing, guaranteed to lift the spirits. Featuring
- Verdi’s magnificent overture and the ‘Slave Chorus’ from Nabucco,
- Puccini’s Madame Butterfly,
- Beethoven’s 9th,
- Bizet’s Pearl Fishers and more,
