Youth Day, 16 June 2021, marks 45 years since the June 16 student uprising of 1976. The commemoration of June 16, Youth Day aims to honour and celebrate all those who died and suffered during the protest – fighting for freedom and the right to equal education.
This year Youth Month is celebrated under the theme: The Year of Charlotte Mannya Maxeke: Growing youth employment for an inclusive and transformed society.
Join Iziko Museums of South Africa on Wednesday, 16 June 2021 for a virtual public discussion in commemoration of Youth Day, titled The Role of Youth in shaping the socio-economic and cultural landscape. This discussion features presentations by Seth Mazibuko, Derecka Purnell, Busiswa Catherine Seabe, Nailah James, and Judge Dhayanithie Pillay. This virtual event will also include a poetic performance by Storme Luddy from Claremont High School, titled: For the titans of circumstance.
The Youth Day virtual public discussion will be hosted via Zoom and streamed on Facebook live, the programme will run from 11h00 until 12h30. Register to participate!
This Youth Day, on Wednesday 16 June, explore selected Iziko Museums for *FREE! This includes the
