Clementina van der Walt in focus on Sanlam Arts Round Up

Clementina van der Walt walks us through her studio and her weekly showcase at the Oranjezicht City Market at the V&A Waterfront on Saturdays and Sundays.

This well known ceramic artist, surely needing little introduction, operates from the Tollgate Industrial Centre, an atmospheric industrial complex with good light and great views. Although this is predominantly her workspace, she does have a retail space to show off her work. Her partner Albie Bailey curates pop-up exhibitions there a few times a year. The focus includes work by Clementina, as well as a selection of artists in other media.

Godet Mbwaya is a welcoming presence at the Clementina van der Walt stall in the designer aisle at the Oranjezicht City Market. at Granger Bay in the V&A Waterfront. As Clementina enthuses, this is certainly a GREAT market as loyal regulars will testify. Every Saturday and Sunday, the market is open from  08:00 to 14:00, giving you a weekly opportunity to view a wide range of Clementina’s wares. And enjoy the fabulous food and produce available.

As Clementina explains, although she has a range of very popular production ware, each piece is essentially different. Then there are her once off pieces such as vases, tiles and specific art pieces that are distinctively a Clementina van der Walt ceramic artwork, much sought after by collectors.
