The Deep South Community Art Exhibition 2020 in the Scarborough Community Centre runs from 11 to 16 December 2020. Now in its second year and the proceeds from artist submission fees and commission are all in support of TEARS Animal Rescue.
Artwork submissions officially closed on 25 November 2020 and there has been a massive response. “I am so excited about the amazing mix of artwork that we will have available this year! We have grown to over 45 artists with over 150 pieces of art… From paintings, to photography, drawings, sculpture, jewellery and more!” reports organiser Margherita Introna.
As part of the event, there will be an opening reception on the Friday evening 11 December 2020 from 6pm, where they will be offering a cheese and wine spread. There will also be live music by local artists and musicians Gaëllou and David Barkham.
The exhibition will then be open for viewing from Saturday 12 December 2020 to Wednesday 16 December 2020, from 10am* to 4pm (*note: open from 11am on Sunday 13 December 2020).
An exciting new feature introduced to this year’s exhibition is the “Support-an-Artist” Initiative. This initiative is specifically aimed at uplifting artists within the Deep South community that do not have the financial means or experience to submit to an exhibition. This initiative covered the cost of the submission fees and the administration to assist these artists in preparing their artwork for submission. It also offered some mentoring for these artists. Myself and some of my friends and fellow artists put some money together to cover this and I am pleased to share that we have had some wonderful nominations, including two homeless artists that have been creating artwork through The heART Project.
Deep South Community Art Exhibition 2020 will be hosting “Artists-in-Action”, where exhibiting artists will be creating artworks live in the exhibition space during the exhibition. Guests will be able to observe the creation process in person and interact with the artists directly.
This year they have also added a Yoga session… Come enjoy a beautiful Yin Yoga practice surrounded by art and light! Hosted by Chandre de Jager from The Yoga Lounge. Proceeds are also in support of TEARS Animal Rescue.
