*Earth and Thread* is a captivating collaboration between two artists: a ceramic artist and a textile designer, that explores the intertwined relationship between earth and fabric, bringing together clay and thread in innovative ways.
The ceramic artist, Clementina van der Walt, captures the raw, elemental qualities of clay, shaping it into forms that reflect nature’s textures and colors. Meanwhile, the textile artist, Yda Walt, uses woven and dyed materials to evoke the organic, tactile feel of soil and flora, grounding each piece in earthy tones and textures. Both artists delight in brightly coloured surfaces.
Together, they create a dialogue between solid and soft, between permanence and transience. *Earth and Thread* invites viewers to contemplate the connection between nature’s materials, blending tradition with contemporary interpretations of art rooted in the natural world.
