Frederike Stokhuyzen at The Cape Gallery

Solo Exhibition - Frederike Stokhuyzen

Frederike Stokhuyzen, renowned artist, is holding a solo exhibition at The Cape Gallery – opening at 4pm on Sunday 3 April.

Frederike’s harmonious paintings have a unique aesthetic. Seldom using photographs, she prefers to capture a view in pen and wash before translating it to canvas in her Camps Bay studio. She paints in oils, often using the colours directly out of the tube preferring not to mix them, applying the paint with a variety of palette knives.

Her paintings are a paeon to nature. Distant views of beaches and mountains can be glimpsed beyond and behind rippling canopies of trees. Vygie and gnarled fig trees take precarious root in the craggy crevices of steep rock faces. Bright yellow Canola fields straddle the plains, the Cape Mountain ranges soar. Elephant, Rhino, and Buffalo saunter to waterholes at Kruger.

Her bright compositions resemble stained glass, a synthesis of thought, feeling, and reflection built upon a lifetime of experience travel and the discipline.
