Having partnered with top experts to design the programme, the V&A will host a series of free physical activities from October 2014 to March/April 2015, bringing the gym outdoors, and to you.
Here’s an easy way to design a fitness programme that meets your needs.
Kick off your weekly exercise programme with boot camp at the V&A, hosted by the Sports Science Institute of South Africa (SSISA), every Tuesday from 7 October 2014 to 24 March 2015 from 5.30pm–6.15pm. Located on the Croquet Lawn, boot camp is free and open to everyone over the age of 15. All necessary accessories will be provided so all you need to do is come dressed for a workout!
A yoga session is the perfect way to ease into the day. Start your day with yoga brought to you in partnership with the Gururamdas Yoga Studio. The free yoga class starts at 7am until 8am every Wednesday and takes place on the Pierhead Deck, offering tranquil views over the waters of the harbour. Classes begin on 8 October and run until 25 March 2015. Participants simply need to bring their own yoga mats to enjoy the beauty of Cape Town mornings.
The Nike+ Run Club will also host outdoor activities for Capetonians this summer. Everyone is welcome to join their free running club every Wednesday from 1 October 2014 to March/April 2015 at 5.30pm–7pm. The route will follow one of the V&A’s established running routes, namely the 2.5km or 5km route. One of these two routes will be selected closer to the time. Beginners and more experienced runners alike should meet outside the Nike store in Victoria Wharf (ground floor, opposite Centre Court), just before 5.30pm.
If you’re not keen on classes or fitness clubs, there is plenty of sight-seeing to be done on your own around the V&A Waterfront. Rent a bicycle from Upcycles or AWOL Bicycle Rentals & City Cycling Tours and cycle the area at your own leisure, keeping active to the beat of your own drum in the Cape Town sun.
Re-design your body for summer!
