2022 Best of Wine Tourism Awards

La Motte was announced as the South African Winner in the Arts & Culture category of the 2022 Best of Wine Tourism Awards that honours innovation and excellence in wine tourism throughout the eleven greatest wine regions of the world.

La Motte is passionate about art in all its forms. Other than celebrating the art of living through a renowned wine portfolio and acclaimed restaurant offering, guests are invited to participate in a variety of art and culture related experiences.

“We are delighted to be recognised by the Great Wine Capitals of the World for our dedication and creativity when it comes to developing a wine tourism experience around art and culture”, says CEO Hein Koegelenberg. “It brings us much joy and we hope to share that with everyone who visit us on the estate.”

Contemporary Art

Now on exhibition in the La Motte Museum, Threads of Synergy pays homage to the artisans’ presence in the making. This exhibition of large-scale tapestries calls for a tactile encounter, regaining sensitivity towards surfaces and reawakening our sense of touch. (See lead photo)

Pierneef, La Motte, Celebrating the Rupert family’s passion for art and the conservation of South Africa’s art heritage, the permanent heritage exhibition of landscape master, JH Pierneef, is one of the highlights of a visit to the La Motte Museum.

Walk & Talk

Learn more about the beautiful sculptures on the estate on a guided or self-guided Sculpture Walk or book for our Wednesday morning Historic Walk focusing on the history of the Franschhoek Valley and the unique styles of Cape Dutch Architecture.

The museum is the departure point of the Historic Walk and Sculpture Walk, conducted educational tours of respectively, the Cape-Dutch buildings, sculptures on the estate and the estate’s Pierneef associations.
