La Motte’s Private Rose Garden – enjoy the splendour of an old-fashioned rose garden amongst the romantic ambience of La Motte’s historic buildings when the estate opens its private rose garden for Franschhoek Open Gardens. This is part of Art Franschhoek from 25 – 27 October.
The abundant rose garden hosts 19 types of roses amongst which is the Hybrid Tea rose KORsebue, named after La Motte’s owner Hanneli Rupert-Koegelenberg (see photo above).
Planted in a classic and formal style, the rose garden with its fountain and pathways are surrounded by indigenous shrubberies and traditional fruit trees such as quince, pomegranate and figs supplying Pierneef à La Motte restaurant.
