Lauren Ratcliffe joins The Artists Gallery in Cape Town

Lauren Ratcliffe has joined the team of resident artists at The Artists Gallery in Cape Town!

After showing and selling successfully mainly landscape artworks, her new series of abstract artworks inspired by interior spaces. These pieces, characterized by their soft and muted colours and distinctiveness, ignited a spark within her to explore a completely different artistic direction.  The entire process, she admits, was utterly petrifying.

From the moment she began this series, she found herself questioning every step —wondering what she was doing with these large canvases, fearing that the work might turn out poorly, worrying about how it would be received, and contemplating the possibility of failure. These doubts, like relentless stinging nettles, constantly plagued her mind. Yet, despite these fears, she managed to quiet them just long enough to complete six remarkable pieces, of which she is immensely proud.

Hidden Fragments

These works are a testament to her courageous journey. They are raw, they are real, and they resonate with authenticity. With a solid background in communication, psychology, and people development, Lauren Ratcliffe brings a unique perspective to her art. She describes her latest body of work as ‘Abstract Interior Scapes’.

Her comments on “Hidden Fragments” Oil and Acrylic on Canvas | 105 x 88cm
‘Hidden Fragments is an artwork that speaks into the darkness: the parts of our personalities that we hide or repress or deny. It talks into the shame we feel when we think we are not good enough; the shelves we put ourselves on; the faces we hide behind. Flicking the switch on self-discovery means we first need to go to the dark side… I loved going there with this piece. It was the first one I painted and the one with the most flow. I reckon that is saying something.’

“I sincerely hope you find as much joy in Lauren Ratcliffe’s art as I do. As a fellow artist, I deeply admire her distinctive style and her thoughtful use of color. Her paintings exude a serene calmness, and I always discover something new within them.” Jaret Loggenberg, Artist & Managing Director of The Artists Gallery.
