Cecile Blevi invites us to MOK Gallery to experience the artworks on exhibition in a unique, heritage setting on the historic Muratie Wine Estate in Stellenbosch.
Listen to the Sanlam Arts Round Up on Fine Music Radio FMR 101.3fm every Friday at 17h30
Cecile gives us some of the background to the incredible setting of the gallery, on the estate founded by German soldier Laurens Campher in 1685 on the land granted by governor of the Dutch East India Company, Simon van der Stel. MOK Gallery is the original homestead where he lived with emancipated slave Ansela van de Caab. The original clay bricks are clearly visible.
Drawn Together is the current exhibition of works from the workshop run by Diane Victor, The exhibition includes a work by Diane, and Cecile gives the ‘stormy; background to that artwork. The exhibition ends on 15 November.
My Boland Journey is the title of the next exhibition by South African landscape artist Roelof Rossouw. The exhibition will be opened by Elsabee Daniel on Sunday 19 November from 11:00 to 13:00
And there’s another workshop coming up on 22 November with Virginia MacKenny. You will need to contact MOK to see if there are places still available.
Many good reasons for heading to MOK Gallery on the Muratie Wine Estate that also boasts an excellent restaurant – the Farm Kitchen – and Wine Tasting of the estate wines.
