Cast off the winter blues on a musical note at the V&A Waterfront’s Acoustics Underground series, presented in association with Kfm.
Showcasing performances from top local musicians Loyiso Bala, Arno Carstens, François van Coke, Judith Sephuma and Camillo Lombard, in the intimate and historic setting of the Chavonnes Battery Museum, performing artists will take guests on a musical adventure, delving into the emotions and background to some of their most famous songs.
The series kicks off with a performance by popular R&B artist Loyiso Bala on Wednesday, 29 June. Bala’s a musical career began in 2001, and gathered momentum after the release of his first album, Wine, Woman and Song, in 2003. He has since won multiple music awards, including for Best R&B Album at the Metro FM Music Awards, making him a household name.
Rockers Arno Carstens and François van Coke will turn up the beat on Wednesday, 27 July. Since the breakup of Carstens’ band, The Springbok Nude Girls, the long-time band mates and friends have regularly collaborated, pooling their vast experience in rock music together to create memorable performances across SA. Van Coke is renowned for his work leading two of SA’s most popular rock bands, Fokofpolisiekar and Van Coke Kartel, and released a self-titled solo album last year. Fans can look forward to an acoustic and intimate showing of unrestrained brilliance.
The triad of performances ends on an extremely high note with Judith Sephuma and Camillo Lombard on Wednesday, 18 August. These acclaimed giants of the jazz genre require little introduction, and with Sephuma’s spectacular vocal range and Lombard keyboard genius, the audience can expect pure musical magic on the night.
Performances are limited to 200 guests, and a cash bar will be available on the evening. Doors open at 7pm, and performances are scheduled to start at 7.30pm.
