Natural Delights by Kobus Walker – the narrative of Kobus’ collection of artworks on exhibition at Art@Africa – pays homage to the abundance of natural beauty present within South Africa.
From a young age Kobus has been enveloped by nature, art and a love for symphonic sounds. This has shaped the bright lens through which he perceives life and expresses his art. His understanding of the intricate beauty found in nature and musical melodies has allowed him to experience the world with an observant and artistic vision. Elements reminiscent of musical notes such as rhythm, repetition and flow translate through his vibrant paintings.
“We have been working with accomplished artist Kobus Walker for over 4 years and he continues to amaze me every time that he creates a new body of work”- Dirk Durnez (owner of Art@Africa)
Kobus Walker is a Pretoria based artist. He was born in Rustenburg, North-West Province in 1971. Growing up Kobus attended art and music classes where he harnessed his creativity and learned to play various instruments- including piano, organ, guitar, African drums and trumpet. He matriculated in 1989 and studied at the Pretoria Technikon where he completed a Fine Arts diploma in 1992.
After his studies he exhibited his art at day art fairs and flea markets. He started out painting on up-cycled wine bottles, which helped him to realize his potential as an artist. He worked with fellow artist, friend and mentor Tivan van Dyk for almost 10 years. Together they worked on different projects, like murals at Caeser’s Casino, in London and in Egypt. Through experience of several exhibitions he learned to work on a bigger scale and the different techniques involved with that scale.
He started working as a full-time artist in 2007. Over the years he took part in different group exhibitions and had 7 solo exhibitions.
“As a full-time artist, art is incorporated into everything you do. It becomes a lifestyle where creative ideas are born.”- Kobus Walker
