Any members of the public who wish to attend the City of Cape Town’s commemorative event at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday 11 December 2013 may now pick up their coupons.
This event will serve as Cape Town’s memorial service to honour the life of Nelson Mandela. Members of the public are encouraged to attend this event to mark Cape Town’s own tribute to Madiba.
The City has introduced a coupon system for entry into the stadium, for the safety of attendees. A maximum of five coupons are available per person, free of charge, on presentation of a valid driver’s licence, Identity Document or Passport. These coupons can be collected at Computicket stands, Shoprite, and Shoprite/Checkers outlets across Cape Town on a first-come, first-served basis.
Without these coupons, members of the public will not be allowed access into the stadium. The City urges residents to only come to the stadium event if they have their coupon.
This coupon allows free access to public transport into and out of the city from noon onwards, on the MyCiTi bus service, Golden Arrow Bus Services, and Metrorail.
There will be a free MyCiTi shuttle service from the Civic Centre to the Cape Town Stadium, and a pedestrian ‘walk of remembrance’ from the Civic Centre to the Stadium will be activated (the fan walk).
Commuters are encouraged to use the free public transport service because roads around the stadium will be closed and it is anticipated that there will be traffic congestion.
TIME: The event starts at 16:00 and gates will open at 14:00 and the event will conclude at 23:00 .
PROGRAMME: Prominent artists are lined up to perform and details will be confirmed closer to the time.
TRANSPORT: See above and note that the event will conclude at 23:00 and public transport will be available for all attendees to be able to return home.
