Previously known as East City, The Fringe, Cape Town’s Innovation District started to take shape in 2007. This district stretches between Roeland and Darling Streets, Buitenkant and Canterbury Streets, and connects the land to CPUT (Cape Peninsula University of Technology) from Longmarket through to Tenant Street. The Fringe is modelled on an urban “science park” model managed by professionals that focus on community prosperity, promoting innovation and developing an integration of education and business. Long term the vision of this district is to develop and align itself with other great international models like 22@Barcelona, Toronto Fashion Incubator and Design London.
