The Re-imagining Tragedy from Africa and the Global South (RETAGS) project, is a celebration of a 5 years research that focuses on tragedy from the perspective of the Africa and the Global South. The upcoming performance is a compilation of the three productions that emerged and were created during this research phase, namely,
- Antigone Not Quite/Quiet (Ninganiki Okungcwele Ezinjeni),
- Ikrele leChiza-The Sermon and
- Oedipus at Colonus #aftersophocles.
This RETAGS Performance Preview is a combination of extracts from these three above mentioned productions, by the multi-talented Magnet Theatre Youth Company. The RETAGS project is led by Prof. Mark Fleishman with Mandla Mbothwe and is aimed at understanding how tragedy have been reconfigured in the post-colonial theatre.

Magnet Theatre is an independent physical theatre company based in Cape Town, South Africa. It was formed in 1987 by Mark Fleishman and Jennie Reznek who have since been the company’s artistic directors.
