Rocking the Daisies – rock to a new beat

by | Oct 5, 2013 | News | 0 comments

This year’s Rocking the Daisies certainly promises to rock!

Featuring British indie electro group Alt-J, Swedish garage-rock band The Hives and 1990s rock ensemble Skunk Anansie, as well as our own Spoek Mathambo. But festivalgoers looking for more nuanced and engaged listening would do well to skip the big names and set up camp at the Nu World Beat Barn. Here you can enjoy the hypnotic Xhosa vocals of singer-songwriter Bongeziwe Mabandla, Derek Gripper’s evocative guitar translations of African kora music, Fever Trails Ensemble’s avant-garde electro-acoustic journeys, Mozambican lyricist Ras Haitrm’s reggae-global riddims as well as Bateleur’s blend of experimental electronic, West African polyrhythms and chamber music.
