This exhibition by Roelof Roussouw is called ‘My Boland Journey’ referring to the artist’s passion for this beautiful
South African region that boasts majestic mountain ranges, rows of vineyards, orchards, rivers and quaint whitewashed workers’ cottages.
Roelof always longed to live in this area and in 1995 his career was established enough to allow him to move from Gauteng to Robertson where he resided for 16 years. This enabled him to travel to nearby areas to indulge in painting all these scenically inspirational locations.
For more than 20 years Roelof has been painting landscapes of the Boland region (wine farms with majestic mountains northeast of Cape Town) namely Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Paarl, Rawsonville, Worcester and Robertson
‘’As a child I would love visiting my grandparents on their old farm near the Swaziland border. It was a small and simple farm, but the beauty of that part of the world with its great mountains and unspoilt ruggedness made a lasting impression on me. Today I’m very happy to live in Somerset west, which is also part of the Boland, I love to paint dust roads, trees, vineyards,
mountains, farm dams, old farm barns and houses’’ [ See Profile, Exhibitions and Awards below]
