“Run Gugulethu” with Run Cape Town is billed as “Sightseeing on the Run!”

Run Cape Town is an eco-active tourism initiative that offers guided “sightrunning” tours of Cape Town and the Western Cape – instead of jumping on a bus, bike or car, they invite guests to don their sneakers and running gear and run through the streets, trails and neighbourhoods of Cape Town and the greater Western Cape area, seeing the sights and learning about the history, culture and modern day life of the area, with accredited and experienced running guides.

Vincent Ntunja joined Run Cape Town to offer a new running tour route: “Run Gugulethu”.  He takes groups of runners on an 8 – 10km route of Gugulethu, visiting the important historical landmarks of the area, including the Amy Biehl Memorial, the Gugulethu Seven Memorial, the Gugulethu Sports complex and Mzoli’s, one of Gugs’ most visited braai (barbecue) spots.

“Vince is the perfect running guide for ‘Run Gugulethu’ – a proud resident of Gugulethu, he has travelled the world representing South Arica in basketball at both junior and senior level, and has met basketball icon Michael Jordan, winning the Most Valuable Player Award out of 500 kids at his camp in Los Angeles.  Nowadays Vince is a successful professional model, TV presenter, motivational speaker and holds a degree in Sports Tourism.  He recently became the new sports presenter at Bush Radio.  The name Gugulethu comes from the Xhosa words “igugu lethu” which means “our pride”, and Vince definitely does a great job of sharing his Gugs – with pride – with participants on this running tour of Gugulethu!” explains organiser Philippa Jephson.
