Rupert Museum Saturday – the first of 2023 – takes place on 28 January, and s usual there’s a great line of events, plus catching up on the current exhibitions.
- LIFE DRAWING workshop with artist Fawa Conradie
Fawa Conradie (see image above) is an artist who has made and taught multiple media art over the last twelve years; to fellow-artists, children and people with special needs. He is part of a Life Drawing group that’s been established for six years and meets once a fortnight to draw models from life. He is also the founding member of Stellenbosch Urban Sketchers, now in its eighth year.
During this workshop, attendees will be a drawing a model from the exhibition space currently featuring The Johannesburg Station Panels by JH Pierneef.
All levels are welcome but strictly over 18 years. The workshop will explore quick sketches and marks, while you progress into sketching longer poses with a focus on using charcoal, graphite and conté pencils.
All materials and equipment are supplied. Please note all exhibitions will be accessible while this drawing session is taking place.

- Don’t Bug Me – Ecoprinting workshop with artist Sanet Visser
Come try your hand at printing with natural pigments you will source from the museum grounds. The workshop will start with a brief introduction to the background of natural dye and interesting stories of leaves and insects. This will serve as inspiration for your design and printing of your very own tote bag to take home. As an additional surprise, you will get a jar filled with onion skins that will dye your Japanese Shibori inspired headband, only revealing its magic a few days later.
All materials, a snack box and protective clothing will be provided, no experience is needed – just come have fun.
This workshop is inspired by three of the Social Impact Arts Prize award winners whose projects are focused on the garden and its elements.
