The independent vision of individual artists of SA today!

Talk Talk at The Cape Gallery? “A picture is worth a thousand words” is a saying that draws attention to the power of visual imagery, conveying complex narratives, emotions, and concepts, which is often more effective than verbal description. In South Africa art, music and sport have demonstrated a capacity to transcend cultural barriers.

On May 29th, South Africans will exercise their democratic rights to vote. The media are buzzing with debate; promises are made for better service delivery, fewer power outages, better policing, free housing, health, education, youth employment, land restitution etc. What will be the vision of the ruling party and more importantly, will any transition be equitable and peaceful. How will the culturally diverse population of South Africa and the aspiration of the ordinary people be served?

Artwork selected for this show aims, in part, to solicit empathy for the current conditions, as well as to accommodate the independent vision of individual artists who could influence the way South Africans perceive themselves in the future.

TALK TALK covers a vast range of artists and media.

‘No-one will deny the profound inter-relation of artist and community. The artist depends upon his community – takes his tone, his tempo, and his intensity from the society of which he is a member.’ Herbert Read – The Meaning of Art published by Faber and Faber.
