This Thursday, 4 September, THK Gallery celebrates a momentous evening with two openings on two continents — the launch of THK Cologne during DC Open 2025, and in Cape Town, the debut of Witness at the inaugural Cape Town Photography Festival.
Cape Town friends are invited to join the gallery from 6–8PM to celebrate the opening of Witness.
In a world where images multiply without pause—shaped by algorithms, blurred by artificial intelligence—the photograph no longer holds steady as truth. Witness arises within this uncertainty, not to soothe but to unsettle, asking what it means to truly see when sight itself falters. To witness here is to insist on presence, to guard memory, to stake a claim for attention against the tide of forgetting.
Douglas Kirkland, Johno Mellish, Nonzuzo Gxekwa, and Kuba Freter inhabit this terrain with urgency and grace, each turning the camera into an instrument of intervention, each revealing that to look is never neutral, but always a decisive act.
