Explore the Winter Waterland of the Two Oceans Aquarium during the school holidays this June and July. The Aquarium remains Cape Town’s preferred all-weather destination for families to feel warm and ocean-inspired.
This winter holiday season the Aquarium is open daily, and there is even more time to explore the enchanting underwater world, with extended hours from 09h00 to 18h00 from 24 June to 17 July 2023.
What’s on?
• Little ones are in for a memorable treat! Kids can enjoy a wide selection of fun activities, such as entertaining puppet shows and fascinating crafts from DIY pencil bags and photo frames to bracelets and wire mobiles, all in the Aquarium’s I&J Children’s Play Centre. And what kid doesn’t love having their face painted? As part of the Winter Waterland festivities, every weekend during the school holiday from 10h00 to 15h00, kids visiting the Aquarium are encouraged to seek out the dedicated face paint artists and choose their Winter Waterland design.
• Families are invited to sign up for the Aquarium’s annual membership – a single ticket that provides a whole year of unlimited Two Oceans Aquarium visits! Members also get access to special members-only family events, like the upcoming family sleepover on 15 July. Visitors who are unsure about becoming a member don’t need to decide upfront. If you decide you would like to become a member after your visit, you can upgrade your ticket to a full membership on the spot.
• The Aquarium has plenty of ways for adults to enjoy our Winter Waterland too – The Aquarium’s daily feeding schedules provide popular edutainment for all ages. Stop by and indulge your curiosity! Shark feeds take place every Saturday, divers feed the animals of the I&J Ocean Exhibit on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and of the Kelp Forest Exhibit on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. And the penguins, well, every day is penguin feeding day!
• Local music lovers will enjoy the return of the After Dark live concerts at the Aquarium – the first one kicking off on 25 June. These one-of-a-kind performances have been specially crafted to give Capetonians a truly unique experience as six up-and-coming artists offer sensational soundscapes in front of the Aquarium’s stunning seascapes. Tickets are available online on the Aquarium’s website.
• On 15 July, the Aquarium will join the local community at Mouille Point beach for the next Trash Bash beach cleanup. Come and join the Aquarium team in connecting, helping the environment, and creating awareness around plastic pollution in our marine environment. Trash Bash would be impossible without the support of ocean-minded volunteers. Together, we can make a positive difference for the health of our beaches and, in turn, our ocean.
• Sometimes winter fun means learning something new. During winter, the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation is offering three exciting courses:
- Grade 7 Smart Living Sustainability course,
- Grade 8 and 9 Introduction to Marine Sciences course, and the
- Grade 11 and 12 Marine BioBasics course.
With all of these courses offering a limited time two-for-one deal, this is the perfect opportunity for your child to bring a friend along, spend some quality time together during the holidays and learn more about the ocean. Something about hands-on activities and maybe field trips to make these sound a little more exciting!
No matter the weather these school holidays, the Aquarium provides a safe, warm and fun environment for families to learn, have fun and spend time together. Visit the Two Oceans Aquarium this winter school holidays and Explore, Experience and Engage.
