She maintains food should always be prepared using uncomplicated techniques, simple and accessible ingredients especially in home-cooking allowing the cook time to live life instead of being tied up in the kitchen. She has been running a self-funded charity called Pumla’s Food-Soup Kitchen. which feeds unemployed men looking for jobs in street corners.

Author of two books and mother of seven Emmaleen Kriel has now produced a cooking memoir written by her alter ego Giblet – pronounced with a soft G as in George.
