Zeitz MOCAA Children’s Winter Holiday Programme takes place from Tuesday, 27 June through Friday, 30 June, with a line up of workshops.
“Our popular Children’s Winter Holiday Programme returns on Tuesday, 27 June during the school break. For four days, children will be given the opportunity to explore a variety of 2D and 3D materials inspired by the themes of the When We See Us exhibition – The Everyday, Joy and Revelry, Repose, and Triumph and Emancipation. Workshops are provided for two age groups — six to eight years and nine to 12 years — with a maximum of 25 and 30 children for each workshop, respectively.”

WORKSHOP 1: TUESDAY 27 JUNE: WWSU – The Everyday
10 am – 12 pm: Looking Through the Window
Age 6 – 8 | Painting

Children will create their own window sill diorama, complete with curtains and representation of favourite objects in their homes

WORKSHOP 2: WEDNESDAY 28 JUNE: WWSU – Joy and Revelry
10 am – 12 pm: Cupcakes and Party Plates
Age 6 – 8 | Painting and Cake Decoration
Plate and cupcake decoration
Bringing back their memories of party celebrations children will paint their own bisque party plate and decorate a real cupcake to take home.
2 pm – 4 pm: Party Patterns
Age 9 – 12 | Tie-Dying and Fabric Paint Prints
Tie dyed scarves and skirts
Children will experiment with fun tie-dying techniques to make pieces of fabric that can be used as scarves or skirts.
WORKSHOP 3: THURSDAY 29 JUNE: WWSU – Repose
10 am – 12 pm: In A Bubble Bath

Children will create bubble prints and add fun elements that remind them of playing in a bubble bath

Age 9 – 12 | 3D Construction and Surface Design
Miniature chill-out chairs
Children will imagine, design and make their own chill-out chairs and spaces, exploring 3-D and surface design elements.
WORKSHOP 4: FRIDAY 30 JUNE: WWSU – Triumph and Emancipation
10 am – 12 pm: I Am A Superhero
Age 6 – 8 | Paper Construction and Collage
Superhero masks
Children will imagine themselves as superheroes and create their own superhero masks using a variety of fun materials.
2 pm – 4 pm: Superhero
Age 9 – 12 | Illustration or Sculpting with Plasticine
2D illustrations or 3D building with plasticine on a wire armature.
Children will imagine themselves as having special super powers and create their superhero alter-ego.
Participants for all workshops must make their way down to the Centre for Art Education (CFAE) on level -1 of the museum five minutes before the workshop begins as it will start promptly with a visit to the artworks, where applicable. Children participating in the Family Learning Workshop and the Children’s Winter Holiday Programme enter for free and must be accompanied by an adult. Children under the age of 18 enter free while entry to the museum is R230 per person or free with museum membership (R390 pp). Zeitz MOCAA’s workshops at the CFAE offer parents/guardians and their child(ren) a space to share a creative experience and develop their engagement with art, together. Materials and equipment are provided along with a snack break
