Sutha ke Fete: The Art of the Basotho Blanket Exhibition at the Sanlam Art Gallery has been extended due to overwhelming demand!
This extraordinary exhibition, showcasing the rich heritage and contemporary designs of the iconic Basotho blankets, will now remain open to the public until 2 August 2024.
The exhibition, which opened in March this year, is the first of its kind in the Western Cape and features a stunning collection of Basotho blankets, including rare heritage pieces from the National Museum in Bloemfontein and contemporary designs from the Sanlam Art Collection and Aranda’s Young Basotho Designer range.
Sutha ke Fete, meaning “make way so I may pass” in Sesotho, invites visitors to experience the rich cultural tapestry of the Basotho blankets. The exhibition tells the story of these blankets, from their origins in 19th-century England to their enduring place in Basotho culture. Highlights include:
• Rare wool heritage blankets.
• Traditional and contemporary designs.
• Blankets featured in the movie Black Panther.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the cultural heritage of a nation. Join Sanlam in celebrating the rich history and artistry of the Basotho blankets.
