The focus on the Arts Round Up is on four exhibitions covering painting, sculpture and wildlife – that you are encouraged to see before they close in October. The Cape Gallery, EBONY/CURATED Cape Town, Rust-en-Vrede Gallery and Art@Africa are where we are heading.

Annual Wildlife 2024

Robert Koch, Porte des elephants

The Cape Gallery has their Annual Wildlife 2024,and seeks to expose South Africa’s rich ecological heritage. Bordered on three sides by the ocean, the diverse terrain within our country supports a variety of plant, bird and animal life. Exhibiting artists know that in sharing their knowledge of the wild places here and beyond they are contributing to preserve them.
Focus on Robert Koch who notes rock art dates back to Neolithic times throughout the Sahara show that elephants were at that time widespread across much of North Africa.  The work on view covers painting, watercolours & pastels, drawings, etchings & prints as well as sculptures.

EBONY/CURATED Cape Town exhibition is Modern Masters VI, the sixth instalment of their annual series highlighting modern art from Southern Africa created before the turn of the century.
The exhibition explores multiple artistic mediums, influences, and distinct visual languages from various artists, both well-known and lesser-known, . Gallery owner Marc Stanes highlights  two works by Cecil Skotnes and Dumile Feni.  (see lead photo above) But there is an extensive range that includes William Kentridge, Walter Batiss, Deborah Bell, Peter Clark, and many more.
Modern Masters VI is a celebration of our artistic heritage. The exhibition closes on19 October.  See also Modern Masters at Ebony/Curated 

At Rust-en-Vrede GalleryHannes van Zyl has an exhibition titled “Looking Back, Looking Forward: A Selection of Figure Studies from 1995 to 2024”
The paintings on exhibition are based on real as well as imaginary subjects, exploring the human condition through expressive painterly means. Most of the artworks lean towards the ’emotional dark side’but often incorporate irony and touches of humour as can be observed in the way titles are chosen after completion. Art@Africa has a Solo Sculpture Exhibition by Olivia Dunkley titled Cosmic Ocean. Olivia unveiled her recent showpiece at Art@Africa. Olivia explains that Sirena resides in a cosmic oceanic landscape and serves as the guardian of all the universe’s oceans. Sirena advocates for their preservation and calls on humanity to protect them. Sirena stands alongside additional abstract artworks The Sound of Water, Tides of Time, Seaflow, and Ocean’s Embrace, which symbolize Sirena’s world and convey her message. The exhibition of her work will run through October.
