ArtSoko Gallery is proud to announce The Cutting Edge, an exhibition that brings together six leading artists—André Hess, John Higgins, Eugene Hön, Hennie Meyer, Clementina van der Walt, and Margaret Woermann—whose work expands the possibilities of clay and textile in contemporary art.
United by deep material knowledge and a commitment to innovation, these artists move beyond traditional forms, exploring new conceptual and technical territory. Their works reveal clay and textile as dynamic, evolving languages—capable of holding risk, experimentation, and profound imagination.
The exhibition is enriched by a residency program hosted by Clementina van der Walt and Albie Bailey at their restored farmhouse near Calitzdorp in the Klein Karoo. During this residency, UK-based artists John Higgins and André Hess created new works that form a vital part of The Cutting Edge, bringing a spirit of collaboration, landscape influence, and creative exchange to the exhibition.
The Cutting Edge reflects ArtSoko’s ethos: to bridge craft and contemporary vision, encourage dialogue between artists and audiences, and support practices rooted in both mastery and exploration. It stands as a testament to the transformative energy that emerges when tradition meets innovation.
