A new name… the Courtyard Playhouse…..a transformation from the Alexander Bar and Theatre, opens on 11 January 2020.
With the new year, 2020 come some exciting changes for the Alexander Bar and Theatre: finishing touches on the decor, a brand new, beautiful theatre, a really dynamic, young, creative team, and a jam-packed programme which introduces workshops, corporate training, professional improv shows and a children’s programme!
With all these positive changes, comes a new name… the Courtyard Playhouse!
“True to the history of this special place, we intend to make the new theatre a supportive home for young, upcoming local talent, and a platform for new work. With that said we are thrilled to announce the first Season as the Courtyard Playhouse, curated by Jemma Kahn!” is the announcement received.

“It is with great pleasure that I can introduce the first season at The Courtyard Playhouse, the concept of seasons in general and The Courtyard Playhouse itself! The position of curator sounds so fancy, and that is what I like about it.
As one does at the beginning of any new project, I tried to impose big ideas on Season 1 and then (as is always the case) what I imposed was incorrect – the content of course must shape the the big idea and not the other way around.
The theme of the flagship season, I have come to discover, is “White Guilt and High Brow Sketch Comedy”. I do hope you will enjoy the spread, finding it stimulating and irreverent.” – Jemma Kahn –
