It’s the last Saturday of the month, so it must be July Museum Saturday on the 27th at Rupert Museum in Stellenbosch, and here is a line-up of activities where space is available if bookings are required. But the galleries are all open and free for you to enjoy and browse!Â
Art Talk by Strauss & Co specialist Marion Dixon (14yrs+) | 10:30 – 11:30 | Free
The Making of Leading Modernist Sculptors – Sydney Kumalo and Ezrom Legae Join Marion Dixon, Senior Art Specialist and Winelands representative for Strauss & Co, as she tells the story of the life and times of two world-class 20th century artists – Sydney Kumalo and Ezrom Legae. The talk is inspired by Gavin Watkins and Charles Skinner’s The Sculptures of Sydney Kumalo and Ezrom Legae – A Catalogue Raisonné.

Attention, young creatives: join Museum Saturday for an exciting museum adventure designed just for you. Throughout Museum Saturday, children aged 5 -11 years are invited to explore the museum’s exhibitions through the interactive self-guide map.
By completing the activity, you will be entered into the lucky draw for an art-inspired hamper, with activities to do at home. Parents and guardians are welcome to join in the fun or the rest of the programme’s offerings while we keep an eye on the little ones.

An Alternative View with artist Diane Harper (18yrs+) | 11:00 – 15:00 | R120pp
Join artist Diane Harper as she takes participants on a creative and playful journey through the exhibition Artology – selected artworks from the University of Pretoria Museums. Participants will view the exhibition through viewfinders, forcing one to limit and select a few details of interest. Your views will be the basis for creating something new and unexpected. Look forward to making quick and bold choices with sketching in pencil and markers, combining colour, folding, and cutting as you proceed. Book your ticket here. Includes all material. #GallerySessions with Lionel John (all ages) | 13:00 – 15:30 | Free
Witness the musical talents of singer, songwriter and record producer Lionel John in Gallery 2. He picked up a guitar at the age of 16 and hasn’t looked back since. His awards include Best Composer and Best Group at an ATKV national music competition, as well as Best Upcoming Artist at the Western Cape Music Awards. Guests can look forward to a mix of covers and originals. You are invited to enjoy refreshments from the Café’s pop-up menu while watching Lionel perform. Adults, don’t forget to grab a glass of complimentary glühwein in Gallery 1.
