Anne Wells, Acting Chair of the Arts Association of Belville tells us what to expect of the exciting new exhibition [ont]BLOOT/Unveiled done in collaboration with Beyond the Frames Life Drawing under guidance of Monique Heystek. Together they have created a huge show. It was an open call to Cape Town and beyond and 380 works were received covering a multiplicity of media – painting, sculpture, photography, printed linen and life drawing sketches.
The 6pm [ont]BLOOT/Unveiled opening reflects the fact that the work, focusing on nudes, is aimed at a more mature audience. One can expect a mix from polished work by accomplished artists to emerging life drawing sketches. The predominance of unframed, nude sketches provides the opportunity for new collectors to acquire low cost, affordable works. It opens up the art market and makes it more accessible. The works at the higher, professional level are at normal market value. And overall there is an edgy quality to the exhibition. Parental guidance is advised and as the work features nudity it might not be suitable for all audiences.Anne draws attention to the Vuleka Competition with submissions being limited to 15 June to 1 July. ‘Vuleka’ means open – na is in fact open to all over 18 years old. The artist must not have had a solo exhibition over the past 3 years. This provides a professional exhibition space for new, emerging artists or artists wanting to relaunch.
